American coloratura soprano Emily Fultz is an emerging young artist who consistently shines with musicality and dedication to her performances. With her “crystalline and instrumental soprano,” (Das Opernglas) Ms. Fultz is an audience favorite in opera, oratorio and artsong, holding a repertoire ranging from early Renaissance to twelve-tone new music and maintaining an emphasis in opera.
Ms. Fultz is currently engaged as an ensemble member of the opera theater in Passau, Germany, where she has sung the roles of Amore and Giunone (Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria), Countess Stasi (Die Csárdásfürstin), Fiakermilli (Arabella), Serpetta (La Finta Giardiniera), Gilda (Rigoletto), Valencienne (The Merry Widow), Lisa (Gräfin Mariza), Carrie (Carousel), Phaedra (Die schöne und getreue Ariadne), Morgana (Alcina), Frasquita (Carmen), Giulietta (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), Franziska Cagliari (Wiener Blut), Carolina (Il Matrimonio Segreto), Blondchen (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Arsena (The Gypsy Baron), Dalinda (Ariodante), Walter (La Wally), La Folie and Thalie (Platée), Juliette Vermont (Der Graf von Luxemburg), Flaminia (Die Welt auf dem Monde), Mi (Das Land des Lächelns), Ottilie (Im Weißen Rössl), Almirena (Rinaldo), Waldvogel (Siegfried), Woglinde and Dritte Norne (Götterdämmerung), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Queen of the Night (Die Zauberflöte), Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier), and Lucia (Lucia di Lammermoor), among others. In the 2014/15 season she made her French debut in the title role Lakmé with the Théâtre d’Operettes in Lyon. Last season she performed the roles of Adina (L'Elisir d'amore), Atalanta (Xerxes), Hirt (Tannhäuser), and Musetta (La Bohème). Current and upcoming roles also include Bacchis (Die Schöne Helena), Euridice (Orfeo ed Euridice) and Zerbinetta (Ariadne auf Naxos).
She began her European career at the Biel Solothurn Theater in Switzerland in the 2009/2010 season singing the roles of Papagena (Die Zauberflöte) and Juliette Vermont (Der Graf von Luxemburg). In the 2010/2011 season she appeared again with the Biel Solothurn Theater as Schwertleite in Offenbach’s Ritter Eisenfrass and as Mademoiselle Silberklang (Der Schauspieldirektor) with the Schweizer Kammeroper.
In the United States and Canada she has also sung several roles, including Die Königin der Nacht (Die Zauberflöte), Lucy (The Telephone), and Tytania in Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream, a first place winner of the National Opera Association's Opera Production Competition. With a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of California, Santa Cruz, Emily Fultz graduated with Honors and was the recipient of the Skolnick Scholarship for outstanding musical performance. After receiving her undergraduate degree, she studied in Milan and Savona, Italy, where she attended the Accademia di Perfezionamento di Canto Lirico. From 2008 to 2010 she was a member of the Schweizer Opernstudio, singing the roles of Agata (Il Flaminio) and Elisa (Il Re Pastore), and in 2010 she received her Masters in Specialized Music Performance, Major Oper at the Hochschule der Künste Bern. Additionally, she is a prize-winner and finalist in several competitions, including the Elvira-Lüthi-Wegmann Competition and the Concours International d’Opérettes de Marseille. In private study she has worked with Janet Perry, Paolo Vaglieri, Hans Peter Blochwitz, Raina Kabaivanska, and in Masterclass with Edita Gruberovà.
